  • Kerry's first ADA tank

    Hey guys,
Just joined Aquarium Life based on recommendation from Barry at B&C.

Just want to share some images of my first try at an ADA layout.

Below are images of the day I planted the tank. That was 1 year ago. The last image is the image that I submitted to the ADA competition.

And the submission to the ADA competition.

As you can see there are big differences from the moment I set up the tank to the final layout. There are many more images in between but there are too many to post.

During that one year period, I have:
_broken 2 ADA lily pipes (ouch!!!)
    _changed plants numerous times.
_used up 8-9 CO2 cartridges (there were so many cartridges used because I didn't realize that the CO2 was leaking)
_spent at least over $2000 (the ADA merchandise is so freaking expensive)
_broken the tip of the ADA scissors.
_made my wife neglected every now and then
And a lot of other stuff that I can't think of right now.

    Hope you enjoy this thread

              $2000 (ish) breakdown:
              _ADA CO2 kit: $580
              _ADA Aquarium+lighting+substrates+solenoid+air pump= $800-ish
_Driftwood+fish+shrimps+plants= $200-$300 (over the course of a year)
              _UV sterilizer=$100
              _Sera Water test kit=$120
              _ADA CO2 cartridges= $200-$250
_ADA pinsettes and lily pipes: uhmmm.....too scared to think ( I earned most of this by doing freelance work for people in the US and they sent me equipments as payment)

So over the course of a year, more or less $2000.

Sigh.....the things I can do with that money.

But $2000 I think is not that much money for something that gives you so much satisfaction 24hr/day for a year.

Gorgeous tank Kerry. $2k is just a small price to pay for such beauty.

You are right $2000 is pretty much worth it because I feel like I did accomplish something.

By the way, the day after I took that final image, I redesigned the tank.

Stay tune for the 2nd design. It is in the process of growing it.

                    Best,
                    Kerry

That is a great looking shot of the final product. Well done. What were the comments for your scape in the ADA comp.

It can be an expensive hobby but I would have to agree that it all is worth every cent

                              Good luck with the competition
