Default Eheim jager heater Help Please!!

Hi there i recently bought an eheim heater (300watt).

When i put it in the tank and fully submersed it bubbles started coming out from around the seal. Is this normal?

It says fully submersible on the box and there is no water that has penertrated within the heater that i can see.

Has anyone else had this experience?

    Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much, they're definitely fully submersible & Eheims are, imo, the best that are out there. I have the newer model Eheim with the carbon painted on the inside or whatever the heck it is they rave on about, that actually has water inside the glass, and it still works fine & dandy. There's recalibration instructions in the leaflet (damned if I could work them out) so just monitor the temp carefully until you get the hang of it - often heaters can be out by a degree or 2.

I have a vague recollection of there being tiny bubbles come out when water entered the casing section (where you alter the temperature, up the top).

As Bettabetta said, I'd keep a close eye on it over the next 24hrs at least, and just watch what it does, but I think you're probably fine. I have had one of these fail (and the temp keep rising) but that was after a few months of service.

How many bubbles are we talking about here?

Let us know how you go?

I've bought 3 over the years from older to the current model and none had bubbles come out.

I've heard from one Eheim retailer that the new Eheim Jaeger heaters are nowhere near as good as the older Jaeger "green top" heaters, in terms of the quality of the sealing.
While failures may not be common, they are not rare.
    common sense................it's very uncommon.

WTF does that mean ? LOL ,that has to be the most open ended comment
"are we talking like 1 fails in 10 or 1 in 20 or 1 in 1000 ?Or are we talking rare as rocking horse $h!t ?"

Problem with Jager heaters is that when the B'std things do break the retailer can't just take one out of stock, hand it to you & say, "Here you go, leave this with us, we'll get reimbursed by them" like they do with every other brand, good, bad or average.

Ooooh no, Jager have to look at it, test it, mull it over & decide whether or not it truly is a warranty issue or whether it was something done by you to cause the failure, pfft.

Around 3 weeks later, when they've reached their decision, they'll advise the LFS to replace or refuse, simple as that. I warned my LFS that should I ever need to avail myself of warranty on a Jager heater & they adopt that stance, it will cost them far more in goodwill & lost business than would be worth their while 'coz I'd scream from the rooftops what &^%(&^'s they are.

WTF it means, is that enough of them have been returned due to the seals failing for that particular retailer to draw the conclusion that they are inferior to, and have a had a higher ratio of returns per number of units sold than the Jaeger green topped heaters. Perhaps I was negligent in not interrogating the proprietor for figures.
My own experience with them hasn't been good. I bought 5 x 50 watt units and 2 of them failed, one within 6 months and the other at 7 months; and no I'm not saying that 40% of the units that are sold fail. (Just in case you don't know what "my own experience" means either).

Perhaps you can quantify the words common and rare with numeric values for me.

Sorry, slightly OT: How long ago did Jagers have green tops? I know Sera heaters used to... Is it more than 10 years?
    Cheers,

Not sure but from memory wernt Jager heaters fully green at one stage although im going back a lot of years before they where of the market for some time
also are they rated as fully submersible as im sure on some online stores they are not advertised as fully submerisble and the reason they have a line at the top as to were the water line should not exceed ?

One of the reasons I have not bought one in recent times is because I thought they are not fully submersible
I always use to use them many years ago but damm long heater

nah the jagers are fully submersible. if there's water inside the heater though i'd chuck it. not worth the electrical hazard.

if you're going to replace it, i'll add my 5c:
not a fan of jager due to their length. i prefer sera because they are more compact and have a 5 year warranty.

Like already mentioned, please inspect inside the glass cylinder (heater) for any water.
If theres water inside, then it would be wise to return it.
