    Default Beamswork yes or no?

    Hi

I'm planning on setting up a 10G planted tank and would like people's opinion on Beamswork's lights? I would like to do low to medium light plants. Is there anything else roughly around that price range?

    Thnaks

Yes they will be fine. What's the dimensions of the tank? Chihiros led are also good. Literally any light will be fine for a small tank. Even table lamp. Rest is down to aesthetics.

Thanks rebel, you seem to be everywhere :-). the dimensions of the tank are 45 x 29 x 30cm. Do you have any perefence between beamswork or Chihiros?

tell you what, I would consider these; in this order.

    1. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dee-Aquar...3D161254415719

    2. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Chihiros-...wopVxypERyk-LQ

For kicks and giggles there is this one.

Far too powerful for your tank.

Can you link to beamswork you are talking about?

Just pick the one that you think looks best on your tank/lounge/etc etc. Always get a light with a dimmer.

    hth.

Good i stumbled upon this thread. Soon i will be replacing my MML light.

In terms of the beamswork light i would tend to avoid those. The one's generally available to us in Australia are not the 6500k versions. I usually see 10000k and above models found in Australia. The good ones i used to hear about were the beamswork double bright 6500k, beamswork hi lumen or evo 6500k models. You can't find these anywhere in Australia unless you import them.

Also looks like Aquaholics has added the new DEE aquarium lights to their website. When i emailed them earlier this year they told me a new set of planted LEDs were coming soon. The new ones look great. RGB and white and dimmable. Also a very reasonable price.

Both lights look good. Also very similarly priced. If i was buying for my 3ft tank it would cost just over $100 for either brand of lights.

    Hiya Monty,

The Chihiros are not perfect for colour rendition (red) IMHO. The DEEs have made some effort to acknowledge and address this issue. The OP wanted a basic light and while the DEE may not be as bright as the chihiro, I think it's probably better. Warranty will be similar (non-existent). So it's up to aesthetics.

    Thanks Rebel.

The Chihiros A series has a lot more LEDs than the DEE lights (180 white vs 72 total for DEE for the 3ft versions). The DEE however has the advantage of RGB colours. Also from the specs the DEE lights are made up of 0.5w LEDS whilst Chihiros are 0.3w. Power consumption is also higher from the Chihiros due to having to power more LEDs. The Chihiros would also be better at lighting all parts of the tank since there is a lot more LEDs in the panel as compared to the DEE panel.

Both lights are worth a purchase but so far i am leaning towards the DEE light. Need to do more research on the DEE light but since its fairly new there probably won't be much info about them.

    The Dee looks pretty good.

That said, I had a Chihiros 60cm arrive today and I'm pretty impressed. Very solidly made for the dollar and a nice slim profile. It's also bloody bright!

I'll probably run it dimmed a bit as the current plan is for that tank to be low-medium light. I also have a 30cm floating about somewhere in the South China Sea that I ordered before I found a local source.
