16x3w LEDS =48w. Will that get hot if they are driving them at 3w, doesn't seem to have any fans. If so you could BBQ some meat on the lights while you are admiring your new scape.
Seriously would 16 Be enough to make heat an issue?

Yes I think so. There are no firm formulas but LEDS would have temperature tolerances. I reckon 40C would be the limit with regard to longevity. The cooler the better I reckon.

What about a 30cm MML panel. This is bit of a guess on my behalf but a 30cm panel with 120 degree lenses over a 60cm tank may give you enough light grunt, and be able to give you the coverge as well.Fred would be able to advise you. They also now come with WiFi. You could change the light settings from work LOL.

slowly. I am going to acquire some second hand Chihiros (blesss my luck) this/next week and think about my options. I really want to see their colour rendition. The O Sun also looks really nice. There is always risk with theses purchases with warranty of course. :P

I'll probably do a two island setup so I can fit in all my plant hoarding tendencies. I really want to grow pinnatifida well.... At least once.

I have also considered using these just for a comparison! About 6 of these tubes would make good light. Need to figure out a nice hanging/mounting option.

Two chihiros vs my AR850 lighting. The chihiros are blindingly bright!

Remember you can halve the light intensity by using a splitter and running 2 chihiros off the 1 power supply. That's what I've done...

Hey man, I acquired two of the aluminium ones ( It was a swap with plants etc so I didn't have a choice as such) not the fancy pants acrylic one you have. As a bonus, these can just be dimmed with simple dimmers. Perhaps it's not as bright as your version though. this one is 12V 5A power supplies. Each is meant to be 39W. Visually I think I can carpet HC with this. The problem will be algae...

That's about the same wattage as mine (each unit in 602). So I'm ruining both off 1 power supply ~37watts. I have no problem carpeting HC and have no intention of increasing intensity. Having to trim every fortnight is enough as it is...

Interesting! Thanks for the tip. I will just dim both by 50% at least. There are already complaints that the lights are too bright in the living room. I think having water will also reduce brightness spillage.

I wonder how they make the 5630 so bright. I swear the ebay strips are not this bright. Perhaps I didn't heatsink mine enough to experience this much brightness?
