My own spelling has gotten a lot worse lately, since I have gone from using a very good quality keyboard that I have used for years, to a cheap, crummy, clunky keyed one that we got free with a computer, so I have to check every single word I type. Had no idea it would make such a difference

You think that's bad, I've gone to one of those really small keyboards at teh studio because of limited space on the console and you should see some of the speeling i'n doin.

    Default Spelling and Grammar

    I agree with Conway.
ie; I was starting to think I was a bit of a snob.
I have made some really stupid smelling pistakes lately.
Staring at the computer for too many hours a day, both for work and play.
I have gone back and edited them when I have noticed them.
I am not anywhere near perfect when it comes to spelling and grammar but I do try and make an effort.
I do however, accept the fact that the english language is a second language to some of the overseas members and as such, I would not expect perfect spelling or grammar.

I have been on a Commodore forum alittle lately, getting info on parts and repairs. Man, the grammar and spelling there makes this place look like a Finishing School!

You need http://www.urbandictionary.com/ to translate the jibberish it is that bad. I guess alot of us Commodore owners ain't the sharpest tools in the shed! hehe

You would think that half the people that have placed ads to sell their car must have quit school at grade 6.

Just spare a thought for those who make continual spelling mistakes - they may be just a name on the screen to you, but in real life they could well be dyslexic.

I do notice one or two in here that seem to get hammered down a notch because of their replies.

    Thats my 2 cents

I dont think many think outside the square.

But when you do get a repeat offender : fro speeling teh wrds liekt his in nearrly all replys : then see that others reply to that nastily, I have to bite my own tongue and not say "dont be so bloody rude".

*btw, yes I spelt that section of sentence wrong deliberately*

I never comment when I see the poor spelling. I don't see the need to point it out. I don't think they are going to change simply because I make a comment!

I don't really think dyslexia is to blame. That may account for 0.1% of cases! The rest are just plain lazy and/or poorly educated. As I said earlier I notice the writing gets worse in forums that attract a lower 'socioeconomic' group hehe, for example Commodore forums and Cichlid forums.

    Default Spelling

I think we all can consider excuses for bad spelling.

But to consistantly spell back and offer the excuse "i was drunk" doesnt help.

To me it shows a lack of respect for other peoples time,I certainly dont want/need to decipher a message just so I can comment or help.

We have international members here who dont speak english. They translate their posts into english for us and translate it back to read our replies.

Out of respect for them,I try to make sure my spelling is correct.

If someone does have a disorder ,I would understand. But would also recomend they download a spell checker ( ispell) and help themselves a little.

And why no smilies? I am at work and ALL pictures are banned from work pc's lol

Does that include members of "this" forum that happen to be
    cichlid owners?

Smile We have had our fun.

Ok, all jokes aside, I think everyone gets the point about spelling and grammar.
I think perhaps, this thread should be declared closed now.
