    Default Insanity Fair

I've always wanted to build a huge concrete aquarium, and I love my DIY, so in 2010 I decided to build a moderately big concrete aquarium as a trial run for a much larger tank in a few years. This isn't quite finished yet but much of it is done so I'll start the photos rolling now. I work full time so everything was done on weekends.

This thread will be quite detailed, and technical in parts. It may be of interest to some of you.

In the beginning there was nothing:

The concrete blocks are standard 400*200*200mm. The stand continues:

Note that I cut a notch in the side of some of the blocks.

Here you can see the reason for the notch, it is so reinforcing steel can pass through:

The blocks in the corner are where the overflow will be.

If this is the moderately big one, just what on earth do you have in mind for huge? Are you planning to fit in the same house? This is just so impressive in the footprint! And I third or sixth, or wherever I am in the cue now, the call for more pics please!

Thanks DiscusEden. The bigger tank? You'll have to wait and see... It will be adjacent to the house with the glass in the house wall like a window and lit by the sun.

Not quite as minimalist as Amano's projects! But a hell of a lot cheaper. More like the concrete wall behind him LOL.
