    Default Neon Blue Rams

While surfing the net I came across a pet shop in Brisbane selling Neon Blue Rams. Does any one know if they are a natural or a hybrid species. They are not cheap at $69.00 each.

    Cheers

As far as I know they are a mutation of the normal blue ram (what I've been told) but there is still much debate whether or not they will breed true.

A mate of mine bought two pairs from the only store in Aust that has them (the store bought the whole lot) and they have spawned already for him, so we will soon know. To be honest, that picture is not the best - looks stressed. The ones I saw had stronger colour and I thought they were quite nice.

Yes, I have seen them in the LFS too. Very nice fish. Great colour, form and health. They were not shy when I approached them closer to the tank either, they were infact very eager (to be fed again I think!).

Selectively bred to achieve colour and form I believe. Just like the Gold rams, breed for it gold color morph. Some people would consider it rather deformed as the scenario is similar to balloon ram with un-natural balloon body. On that note, any one know the life span of these Neon Blue rams?

If it's just a colour morph, I quite like it. I doubt they are a hybrid.

As far as I know, the genus Mikrogeophagus only includes only two species, M. ramirezi and M. altispinosa.

This guy just looks like M. altispinosa with the usual blue colouring taking over.

    Mount Gravatt...need i say more ?

Most of the really good ones have already been bought but there are still some nice ones left. I saw a nice pair courting each other when I was there a few days ago. The female was especially stunnning! - a deep neon blue. If i had the room they would have been mine already

Blue Ram that doesn't sound like a very informed opinion.

I can understand people who hate the idea of hybrids, I still think it's a little creepy sometimes even though I keep platys which could be a mix of two or three species. I still don't think these guys are hybrids. If so, bred with what guys?
